Product Details

A PAIR OF 28-BORE FLINTLOCK TRAVELLING PISTOLS SIGNED H.W. MORTIMER, GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1812, with octagonal slightly tapering 4 3/8in. barrels, the top-flats signed on two lines 'H.W. MORTIMER, LONDON' above 'GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY', bead fore-sights, engraved bands at breeches, engraved top-tangs, flat, bevel edged slightly curved locks with stepped and pointed tails and signed below the semi rainproof pans 'H.W. MORTIMER', swan-necked cocks with safeties (one safe incomplete), walnut full-stock with skip-chequered dot-punched bag-shaped grips with starbursts carved at heel, iron trigger guard bows (strong traces of original blued finish) and horn-tipped ramrods

Provenance: there is a strong possibility that these pistols may be the work of the elusive Harvey Walklate Mortimer Jnr.
